Portal Home > Knowledgebase > Contact List Management > What are the laws for sending unsolicited marketing email with email addresses I found on websites?
The law is different for "individuals" email addresses and "companies" email addresses. Consent must be obtained from an individual prior to sending them electronic messages according to the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003.This law does not apply to "companies" email addresses. Even though permission is not legally required, good email marketing is based on permission. Permission provides for better engagement, better conversion and better deliverability (getting your message into the inbox). You are much more likely to be considered a spammer if you don't obtain permission first.
